Part of a triptych.
When I approach a female icon that interests me, whether a classical or biblical myth, I blend figurative and expressionist styles. The result is a symbolic and surrealist narrative surrounding the theme. In Immaculate Conception, the angel is absent; there is no mediation from heaven, and there is no story of the Son of God, but rather a different narrative: only she remains in the painted space, in direct relationship with the flower with which she hybridizes and which connects her to the Earth. The white square indicates a sacredness already embodied in self-definition. The female body is in yogic positions, declaring its presence and its path.
