This navy blue and white minimalist seascape feels both calming and quietly dramatic to me. I made this image as dawn was breaking through a veil of deep fog in the harbour of the Clyde in Scotland. There was a stillness in the air, a sense of mystery as if the world had paused for a moment between night and morning.
The title comes from an old maritime saying. Sailors used to call the lifesaving lights of buoys shining through thick fog “Angel’s Footsteps,” guiding them safely home when nothing else could be seen. That thought stayed with me as I worked on this piece—the sense of hope, navigation, and small lights that keep us safe in uncertain times.
I love the simplicity of the composition: the deep navy tones, softened whites, and diffused light. It has the quality of abstraction, but also the unmistakable atmosphere of the sea. For me, it is both moody and serene, a reflection of Scotland’s coastal waters in their most poetic mood.
This is a piece I hope will bring a sense of calm and contemplation, a quiet reminder of the beauty and grace that lie in the shifting skies and waters of the Scottish coast.
