Amber Glow is a vivid celebration of light and colour, painted in acrylics to capture the ever-shifting dance of light filtering through a forest canopy. Merging elements of impressionism, expressionism, and semi-abstraction, this one-of-a-kind artwork evokes a sense of enchantment and quiet mystery. The rich bursts of colour reflect nature’s vitality and the transformative quality of light, inviting the viewer into a dreamlike woodland, an experience akin to forest bathing.
Created on a deep-edged canvas in acrylic paints, this piece requires no frame. The process begins with careful observation, sketches, and reference photographs taken on location. In the studio, I work intuitively, starting with brush-painted base layers, followed by textured applications using a palette knife. I employ techniques such as optical mixing, glazing, and scumbling, drawing inspiration from both the Impressionists and the old Masters until the composition reaches its natural conclusion.
The result is a contemporary painting that exists at the intersection of realism and abstraction. The artwork continues around the edges of the canvas, is signed on the side and arrives ready to hang.
