I find portraits of unknown people very touching.
Sooner or later everyone is forgotten, and the pictures that were created to capture the individual facial features – or even the unique personality of a person – join the many similar portraits of people from the same time and social class, posing in a similar style.
For this painting I layered the images of some women from the 18th century on top of each other – and created a new portrait that most probably looks similar to some other forgotten person from that era ...
