Landscape of Auvergne, France.

What caught my eye that morning before this field was, above all, this stark, almost theatrical, yet profoundly poetic contrast: standing beneath the thick, protective shade of this tree while gazing out at the incandescent expanse of the open field under the summer sun.

In this landscape, I wanted to capture the intimate geometry of the land. Agricultural work does not disfigure nature; it rewrites it. The furrows traced into the packed earth and the almost rhythmic alignment of the straw bales redefine the natural terrain, bestowing it with structure and cadence.

Yet beyond the shapes, it is a feeling of suspended time that I sought to fix upon the canvas. The harvest has just ended. The field has emptied of people, yet it remains alive with their presence through these bales left in the light. A singular silence reigns here—that of the earth growing still and finally resting after the harvest.
