This was a rare opportunity for me to paint a beautiful pregnant female model. I loved her short sharp contemporary hairstyle which I felt perfectly contrasted with her curvaceous body and pregnant belly.
I wanted to further exaggerate this polarising effect by simplifying and distorting specific aspects of the composition. You can see this in the way I have chosen to draw her hands, in a slightly primitive manner. This also echoes the tribal influences which I have referenced from Picasso.
