This abstract piece, inspired by plant forms from Kew Gardens, has been a slow work in progress.
One of my favourite things about printmaking is the sheen and lucidity of the inks on the smooth surface of the paper and how building layers of fine coloured ink with my linoblocks enables all sorts of unexpected patterns and shapes to emerge. This works especially well with abstracted shapes, inspired by my many visits to the Palm house in Kew Gardens.
For this print I used blocks which were carved and then re- carved, as well as added to over the years, like a layered compilation of all my many visits to the greenhouse, I will see something different every visit I make, and this way of printing allows me to create a similar feeling of the ever changing views I see when I’m there.
What I hope to impart is the wonderful ever changing forms you see in nature growing inside the Palm House’s glass walls.
This will be a very limited edition of no more than 20 unique prints. Please be aware that it will be a variable edition so colours will differ one from the other as well as the placing of the blocks so each piece is very much a one off.
You may also find faint smudges and creases on the margins of the work, these can be hidden when framing.
