“A Room with a View” is a work about suspended desire: a desire for escape, for self-knowledge, for love, for freedom. The woman is simultaneously Aphrodite (her red hair, her sensuality) and Psyche (introspection, the blue of the soul). She is trapped in a room-state of mind, but the invisible window promises that the boundary is illusory. The eroticism is powerful, yet sublimated: there is no provocation, only anticipation. It is a hymn to the erotic power of the female mind that dreams beyond the walls.
