Soft as a sigh, A Distant Memory is a lyrical evocation of the pale, shimmering colours of low tide at Seilebost on the Isle of Harris. Captured as the sun faded and the tide held its breath before turning, this large-scale vertical image distills a moment of stillness—where pastel waters and wet sands dissolve into one another in a minimalist blend of turquoise, peach, soft beige, and powder blue.
Inspired by the delicate luminosity of Seurat’s palette, this abstract coastal scene leans toward painting more than photograph—dreamlike, fluid, and full of quiet light. It invites reverie: of sun-warmed beaches, tidal pools, and the gentle hush of summer memories. Part of my Hebridean Harmonies series, it pairs beautifully with works like A Gift from the Sea, Sorrel Seas, and The Timeless Tide.
Printed at an impressive 60 x 90 inches (including a 2" white border for professional stretching), this edition is produced on Canson Rag Photographique, a luxurious museum-grade paper known for its painterly texture, rich tonality, and archival quality. Canson, founded in 1557 and trusted by the likes of Ingres, Chagall, and Picasso, has been a steward of the artist’s craft for over 450 years. Their papers are sustainably sourced and continue to uphold the values of traditional craftsmanship.
Each print is made entirely by my own hand in my studio—from photograph to final output—with great attention to colour fidelity, clarity, and feeling.
Custom sizes are available on paper or canvas. Please get in touch—I’m happy to create something just for you.
