This painting was inspired by a moment I observed while walking through the city of Nice in France. I was drawn to the contrast between the urban architecture and the small human figures.
A key theme in this work is the contrast between the small individual — especially the child — and the scale of the surrounding city. I am interested in how a person experiences themselves within a vast urban environment.
The painting is created in oil on canvas. It was painted in a light, spontaneous impressionistic manner with a dominant use of blue tones. This colour also reflects the atmosphere of the Côte d’Azur, where the city is located.
The surface is matte. The canvas is stretched on a deep, substantial stretcher with a 4.5 cm edge depth and a crossbar.
Although based on observation, the composition is fully reimagined and developed as an artistic interpretation. The work conveys a sense of light, openness, and the energy of a large city, as well as a subtle feeling of solitude within it. At the same time, it expresses a child’s curiosity and openness toward the world.
