A Cat's Portrait. Emerald Eyes (2021) Original Pastel Drawing by Liubov Samoilova

This delicate pastel portrait captures a fluffy gray tabby cat sitting calmly and looking directly at the viewer. Its luminous green eyes become the focal point of the composition, creating an immediate sense of connection, curiosity, and quiet intelligence.
Soft gray, silver, and warm cream tones define the cat’s thick fur, while carefully observed stripes, whiskers, paws, and expressive ears bring the portrait to life. The relaxed posture and gentle expression convey the peaceful character of a much-loved companion.
The restrained neutral background keeps all attention on the cat and allows the subtle pastel shades to stand out. The velvety texture of the medium is especially well suited to depicting soft fur, delicate highlights, and the warmth of the animal’s personality.
This original pastel artwork would make a charming addition to a home, study, hallway, or reading corner. It could also become a thoughtful gift for a cat lover or anyone who appreciates intimate animal portraits and gentle, atmospheric artwork.
