Artist's description:

This time I've drawn 9 swans, using photos I took of a swan on the Regent's Canal near King's Cross London. Initially I had the swans on a white background, but decided to add an organic wash of watered down ink to make them stand out, for this reason the drawing would benefit from a white mount in a larger frame, though a 30 by 30 frame would work as well.

One of the things about drawing birds is that a lot of the time the shapes that birds make are not recognisable as birds, not photogenic, not bird shaped, especially when they are in flight. The middle and lower middle swans here are a case in point, if you saw them on their own you'd struggle to identify them as swans, but contextualised with the other 7 it's obvious. Drawing these graphic series' of birds gives me the chance to draw some birds as they really are.

951 black indian ink on 300gsm watercolour paper.
