"The Lovers (2 hearts beating as 1), 2017" by Ta Byrne

“'The Lovers’ depicts two exquisite lovers locked In an embrace. I love working with soft colours, I love the form they take, I love the beauty, the feeling, the glow they generates. I try to capture that glow with every brush or knife stroke, but above all I wanted 'The Lovers' to look comfortable with lots of pleasing curves, ageless, of indeterminate origin or nationality, but above all at ease with themselves, two hearts beating as one.”

"The Earth I, 2017" by Lana Verdi

“After one unsuccessful canvas, I've made another expressive and very gestural approach to my technique, scratching out all my paints and adding some pencil marks of the colours needed to complete. It was a great surprise to see the work come together!”

"A Purple Haze, 2017" by Angela Dierks

“I keep coming back to the combination of purple, magenta and green. The colours interact so well with each other, highlighting each other and making the painting 'pop'.”

"Still Wild, 2017" by Colette Baumback

“'Still Wild' is a large beautiful floral painting of a lush green garden full of foliage and tumbling flowers. I wanted to create the feeling of flow and spontaneity in the work and have achieved by pouring, finger painting, dripping and dropping colour onto the canvas.”

"Roses for Therese 4, 2002" by Gregory Gibboney

“During recovery from surgery, my wife Therese decided to dry the flowers she was given while at the hospital and they were hanging all around our house. As her caregiver, I was unable to get outdoors to sketch so the flowers grabbed my interest and eventually became my subject. I had not done much representational still life work before this, but the process turned out to be a beneficial escape. Tedious detail, which I normally avoid, was actually enjoyable and therapeutic. With each new piece, my natural brush work returned to compliment the realism. The results were both pleasing and cathartic. Roses for Therese became the largest series and most personal series I have produced to date. Emotions from a difficult time in our lives are unsympathetically exposed in this work and I will always be grateful for the unexpected healing they provided.”

"Melita Tempest, 2017" by Teresa Zerafa Byrne

“The inspiration for Melita Tempest came from my childhood memory of watching a storm over the sea at St Paul's Bay in Malta. The night sky was lit up by the most intense lightning, providing glimpses of bright gold reflecting in the blue sea.”

"The Social, 2017" by Benjamin Phillips

“Facebook ironically is not a book and is used daily more than the 'original book' (the bible). I have taken what are exclusively digital Mediums and created a mixed media 2D artwork exploring several related themes. To create such a piece I utilise a wooden panel, allowing me to physically score and gauge the surface. Along with being aesthetically pleasing, I want such works to involve the social, political and economic themes in which I live, as well as having a leaning towards the social and digital world that's such a large part of life now.”

"Smile, 2016" by Anne Storno

“This piece is based on a photo that I took of my daughter. Her smile makes me smile! I have added some poetic elements: flowers, lovely insects, beautiful butterflies, old stamps, labels... that give a retro style to the picture and also embraced a kind of scrapbooking style.”

"NEW! "Sunset over the Grand Canal in Venice" Original Palette Knife Impressionistic City Landscape of Italy, 2017" by Adriana Dziuba

“This is a modern painting of the Grand Canal in Venice at sunset with Santa Maria Della Salute in the distance. I was inspired by beautiful Venetian style architecture and wanted to capture it in my piece. A lonely boat with a gondolier floating through the canal completes the picture and making the scene more dramatic and powerful.”
