“Some days just shine, this was one of them. My Dad passed away early in 2016 and for a while afterwards I felt really low, disconnected and uninspired. Then one morning I walked down to the market to try and cheer myself up. It happened that the local gallery had organised some mural painting that day and there was loads of activity going on. I had a great time, did some sketching and took some reference shots which eventually developed into this painting which for me is all about spring and coming back to life after the hibernation of winter.”

“A swimmer is angled amidst sparkling ripples. The diagonal composition is electric in its energy. Her nudity is obscured by the folds of the water, making a vivid statement that is not too provocative. The inevitabilities of the flow life are reflected in the ripples over her body. I love working with water and other liquids. The ungovernable nature of liquid provides a balance between order and chaos; I can predict the general nature of the image, but the exact details are left to chance. A constantly moving mirror and lens, the liquid provides intricate visual surprises.”
“The title 'Gaia' refers to the Greek Goddess of Earth. The Greek landscape, of which I am becoming more familiar, with it's diverse range of textures and hues is proving a heavy influence on my choice of palette. Strangely, I'm moving away from the brighter blue spectrum of my earlier work as I spend more time traveling. This may seem at odds with the general perception of a Mediterranean influence. But if you think of the earthy nature of antiquity, much of the parched terrain of southern Europe together with the warm light... you have a perfect recipe!”
“This painting was inspired by the Indian Ocean at its calmest, so unaware are we of the life beneath. The ocean is a great inspiration when I am in the studio a fosters a feeling of mindfulness that can transport me thousands of miles away.”
“'Silver river landscape' is inspired by my residency in the small town in Germany of Schwandorf. There is a river passing through the town and enchanting path through the forest with a romantic view. I'm not used to capturing natural landscapes, but this one come very easy with a lot of passion. I ended up with a minimalist painting that that is open to the viewer's interpretation.”
