"Wait! That's Not Archival (Abstract #15), 2017" by Jake Nordstrum

“A lot of my newer work is pushing past my comfort zone. I'm attempting new ideas with new surfaces and breaking rules in an attempt to grow and mature as an artist. Making sure that art is archival is something every artist has heard at one point or another. Well you can't paint it like that because it won't last, or make sure you use acid free paper because of this, and make sure you use a sealant on your drawings because of this issue. And then also we look at our surfaces and paint and point to the quality therein, and transfer that quality to the artwork somehow. Because the width of your stretcher bar makes the painting better right? I think we're all taking ourselves a little too seriously and this painting is in response to that.”

"Afternoon Tea, 2017" by Mila Moroko

“This piece depicts a warm sunny afternoon in a cozy room. The roses in bloom are so bright and with summer just around the corner, there comes the promise of so many lovely and warm days. It is so nice to dream abut all this having a cup of tea...”

"Peace - Aluminium Dibond" by Michelle Williams Photography

“I had noted that the sun was tracking towards the pier some weeks before and had been waiting for this moment when the sun was setting in perfect symmetry with the central perspective of the pier. Coupled with still blue waters, it was a perfect evening to capture this image. Multiple exposures were used to retain detail throughout the image.”

"An April Evening Around Here, 2017" by Jenny Wilson

“April is almost too good to be true – so much for your eyes to behold! This evening I went for a drive – the bright green fields, the fragrant air and the blossom trees just opening up for us – it might have been magic – I don’t know… I stopped and walked over to a field full to the brim of almost new born lambs. They were in a group being carefully watched by a few of the mothers and they were running along the sloping bank of the stream – forwards and backwards, forwards and backwards. I could have stayed all night to watch…”

"Morning Sunrise, 2017" by Angela Dierks

“'Morning Sunrise' is an abstract oil painting inspired by the beautiful light at sunrise. I keep trying to paint with a more muted range of colours but always go back to working with strong, bright colours and textures - they are irresistible!”

"Our Last Night, 2017" by Jenny Wilson

“Memories are the bricks that you build your life with – the more and the stronger memories the taller and more beautiful is the castle which rise around you. The things you long and wait for are over so quickly but they leave you with memories which last for life. This was our last night together, right by the light house, it was all over to soon but the memories were ours to keep, just ours…”

"In the Mix, 2015" by Kristina Sellers

“I believe the visual element is a powerful component of comfort food. So here is a tribute to my fondest weakness...chocolate chip cookies. The recipe box is one I inherited from my sweet Grammie, who patiently gave me cooking lessons in the summertime.”

"Edinburgh, View of the Royal Mile, 2017" by Andrew Reid Wildman

“This large work depicts St Giles Kirk in Edinburgh's Royal Mile. It is an arresting work, original and full of energy. The weather is cold, the sky a haunting white. The buildings draw upwards in their red and brown tones. I chose this view as it is very familiar to me. My ancestors are from Edinburgh and I often wander around here at night when the place is at its most mysterious. I can feel the history with every footstep.”

"Talking to trees, 2017" by Amanda Lakin Art

“I love trees and am lucky to be able to walk every day from my doorstep through glorious countryside and woodland. My inspiration behind creating this piece is a friend from university who was studying sculpture and regularly used to talk to trees. Sadly he recently passed away at far too young an age, I was thinking about him the other day as I walked. On returning to my studio work commenced; I felt energised by the beauty of the barren branches, fallen leaves and dull, misty light. Hopefully I have managed to capture snippet of that day, for a man who used to talk to trees.”

"Viva La Vida, 2017" by Alison Headley

“A woman I greatly admire inspired this piece. But just as much as Frida Kahlo and her strength and beauty made me want to create this picture, so did my love for Mexico, a place I have travelled and a country I yearn to go back to one day. 'Viva La Vida' is a simple enough philosophy yet quite a hard one (for me at least) to always follow; but to be able to remind myself every time I look at this image that yes I am to "Live Life", can only be a good thing.”
