Biography
Timothy studied Film & TV, Design & Animation at North East Wales Institute, graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in 2003. He is an award winning artist who first began painting traditionally in oils in 2010, initially using photography as a reference.
Cats are the central focus of his practice. He is drawn to their innocent curiosity, playful nature and natural sense of humour, creating small, characterful vignettes that capture these qualities. His paintings also reflect a strong interest in interiors, colour and composition, which he incorporates into carefully considered settings for his feline subjects.
Timothy works slowly and intuitively, aiming to retain a sense of looseness and spontaneity within each painting. In the finished work, greater detail is often reserved for the focal points—typically the cats themselves or whatever has captured their attention—creating a contrast between the more detailed subjects and the surrounding environment.
Although each painting is approached as an individual work, Timothy enjoys experimenting with new ideas and visual approaches. Groups of paintings will often develop into a series, connected by a recurring theme or concept.
