About Sam Martin

I’m a landscape artist based in the Lake District, creating bold, vibrant paintings inspired by the mountains and lakes that surround me. Originally from Merseyside, I moved to Cumbria in 2021 to be closer to the fells, which are at the heart of my work.
 
My paintings are shaped by my love of fell walking and swimming in the lakes and tarns - especially in winter, when the world feels quieter and the landscape takes on a raw, magical beauty. Early morning swims in Ullswater, with mist rising from the water and dramatic weather rolling in, often spark new ideas.

I work mainly in acrylics. My bold, expressive style has evolved over the years, but vibrant colour remains at its core.

I’ve completed all the Wainwrights and am now revisiting them through new routes, always chasing fresh perspectives and moments of magic. I’ve been a full-time artist for over 10 years, and my work is represented by various UK galleries, with pieces held in private collections around the world. Through my art, I hope to bring people back to their favourite walks, swims, holidays, and special places.
