About Paula Berteotti

Biography

I am Paula Berteotti, an Angolan-born artist currently based in Portugal. My artistic practice encompasses painting, sculpture, and drawing, through which I explore memory, identity, personal experience, and the relationship between different cultural worlds.

My connection with art began at an early age and has developed into a continuous journey of observation, discovery, and personal expression. My work emerges from an inner representation of lived experiences, rooted in childhood memories and shaped by the moments, encounters, and lessons that life has brought along the way.

Each artwork carries a fragment of this journey. Colour, form, texture, and the elements I introduce into my compositions become visual expressions of memory and personal growth. Every brushstroke and every structure reflects a process of transformation — an authentic path in which experience is translated into visual language.

My artistic practice is deeply influenced by the intersection of my Angolan heritage and my life in Portugal. These two cultural identities coexist within my work, creating a dialogue between different experiences, traditions, memories, and ways of seeing the world. The result is a fusion of concepts and a rich visual and sensory language that brings together the worlds of Angola and Portugal.

Through my work, I seek to transform personal experience into a universal visual expression — one that invites the viewer to connect with memory, emotion, identity, and the continuous process of becoming.

My work has been presented in Portugal, Angola, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Spain, and Belgium.

Education and Training

Training in Painting, Drawing, and Papier-Mâché.
