Biography
Nikolaus Weiler is a contemporary German sculptor. He has lived and worked in his studio in Berlin since 1994.
In his work, he focuses on the representation of space and body from all perspectives with the aim of creating an objective sculpture in the field of tension between dynamics, movement, rhythm, and change.
He constructs his sculptures using metal and wood, which expand and stabilize each other's properties. The raw materials are steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and various hardwoods.
The all-dimensional sculptures are a special group of works. They are created in a constructive development process in which spaces and bodies expand in all directions, both inward and outward into their surroundings. An all-dimensional sculpture can be represented on different sides. In doing so, it vividly changes its spatial appearance and expression. It can appear weightless, static, dynamic, rhythmic, or architectural.
The surfaces of the different materials open up endless paths through space. The metal surfaces reflect light and the surroundings and convey light, space, and lightness. The wooden surfaces, on the other hand, absorb light and suggest materiality and depth.
All surfaces are finely sanded and protected with primers. Finally, they are preserved and refined with Renaissance polishing wax.
Each sculpture is unique.
Other works has been since 2016 sculptures in spatial dynamic curves.
In 2015 he uses acrylic glass in wood for sculptures wearing light.
From 2003 to 2008, he created kinetic sculptures that can be moved and altered in three dimensions – 2007 patented.
In 1994 begins his work and passion for sculpture with new forming techniques for solid wood blocks -2 patents.
