About Maria Atanacković

Biography

I am an Irish visual artist whose practice spans printmaking, assemblage and textiles. Deeply process-led, I approach making as a form of research, testing, adjusting and rebuilding to explore how colour, shape and material coexist. Working across printed textile, wood assemblage, formica and screen print, I use surface as both image and structure, creating work that sits between object and composition.

Drawn to simple geometric forms, I explore the complexity that emerges when elements are placed in relation, allowing separate parts to operate as a system. My background in printmaking, a slow, hands-on and grounding process, continues to inform her approach through repetition, layering and colour. Play and rigour exist simultaneously in my practice: materials are handled intuitively, yet compositions are carefully resolved to create work that feels balanced, considered and enduring.

I studied at the London College of Communication as well as NCAD, Dublin. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is held in the Irish State Art Collection. I live and work in Ireland.
