About Kirsten Schankweiler

Biography

Nature is the central inspiration for my abstract paintings. I am fascinated by its changing light, colours, patterns and structures, as well as the constant movement between growth, transformation and stillness.

My paintings develop intuitively through many layers. I often combine highly pigmented acrylics with spray paint, airbrush colour, oil pastels and fine modelling paste. Each layer leaves visible traces and becomes part of the final composition.

Rather than depicting a specific landscape, I translate impressions of forests, water, mist, mountains and open spaces into abstract forms. A natural colour palette strengthens the connection to the landscape while expressive marks and quieter passages create rhythm, depth and balance.

My intention is to create paintings that bring harmony, positive energy and a sense of calm into a space. The works leave room for personal memories and interpretations—making nature not simply visible, but something that can be felt.
