About Elo Wobig

  • Biography

Like many artists, I have loved drawing and mark making since childhood. While I first enjoyed a career practicing emergency medicine, I continued sketching and remained curious about making things.  Until then, my creative outlets were sporadic and primarily in the service of my family and friends. In spring of 2016, I painted a large mural for the school play. The overwhelmingly positive response led to a commission. This reignited my passion for painting, and sparked my journey into fine art. In October of that year, I was painting nearly every day, and began to study oil painting in January 2017. Since my first painting that spring, the recognition and ongoing successes have emboldened me to call myself, Artist.

My paintings are characterized by exploration, drawing, and vivid color.  As a plein air painter, I am inspired by beauty in locations I come across every day. For me,  it is important to describe my era and my place as I am living it.  I want to capture the mood and distinct features of any location so that the audience may recognize the place and time. I enjoy using the full spectrum of color in my palette.  Oil paint affords me the most opportunity to explore texture and variety of application.  While traveling, I also continue to paint in water media for convenience and immediacy.  Most of my scenes are of the Pacific Northwest and some from my travels.  In addition, I do produce an occasional portrait commission and still life works seasonally.
