Biography
I am a self-taught, UK-born artist.
After living and working in Manchester, Mauritius, Gibraltar, and then spending several years on the warm island of Malta, I am now based in Boulder, Colorado, where the landscape and sense of space continue to shape my work in new ways.
Since leaving Mauritius, my work has evolved through a deeper connection with the people I create for. Collaborating with clients to bring something personal into their space, while staying true to my own expression, remains one of the most meaningful parts of my practice.
I have experienced many profound and transformative moments. One was a vision quest in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, camping alone in the wilderness for four days and four nights with no food, only water - another was walking solo on the Via di Francesco from Florence, through Assisi to Rome.
I am drawn to the intangible, to what is felt but not easily explained. My paintings begin with emotion, often shaped by alternative perspectives that lean into something more spiritual.
Working the contrasts of depth, texture & luminosity with a slightly obsessive edge, intricacy & layering. I choose to take you on a journey of the cosmos around me & the discovery of art being a spiritual experience
I find inspiration in the colours and textures of nature, from the iridescence of a paua shell to the shifting reflections of light underwater. Meditation and music also play an important part in inspiring my creative process.
I have become part of several art consultancies & interior design platforms serving a more commercial & high-end luxury customer base
I primarily exhibit my work online, but I also love the opportunity to support and take part in local exhibitions when I can.
Building professional relationships which work amiably when dealing with new clients & commissions are gratifying, stretching my abilities especially when working on evolving criteria & critique to a tight deadline
Staying open-minded and allowing a piece to evolve organically, rather than holding onto a fixed idea of the result, has become an important part of my approach to commissions.
Being fluid has been essential to my growth & confidence. Working this way has been auspicious, each piece of art feeling like my best work
