About Eleanor Woolley

Biography

My inspiration is taken from my surroundings, I love the mundane, the beauty in things passed by without a second thought.  Paintings are often painted Plein Air and finished in the studio. Starting with bold outlines I work spontaneously, and love to get caught up in the process.  Many layers of paint are used to create the depth of colour, using washes of oil colour.  Often finishing with a palette knife producing a pleasing texture.

My current work is inspired by the landscape of Gloucestershire and her travels, and the long shadows created by figures in urban landscapes.

I've always been creative, and have always turned my hand to making, from Sculpture, Furniture through to Painting. Painting was my first love, I learned to paint in oils at the age of thirteen with a wonderful Art teacher. Sculpture attracted me because it was so large, and I gained a BA Hons at Leeds University, before studying Furniture making and Restoration to add to my creative skills. Art is an addiction for me, I feel the same kind of need to create as others may do to the feeling of exercise. It is like a Meditation, where I become completely absorbed in the process and switch off from reality.
