About Dylan Andrews

Biography

I’m a portrait artist from the South Wales valleys and currently based in Bristol, UK. My journey into portraiture began as a way of confronting and making sense of my struggles with identity, and over time, creativity has become an outlet for reflection and expression. Through my self-portraits, I blend realism with dreamlike elements, representing the tension between who I am and who I feel pressured to become. I also mirror this tension by using charcoal, a medium that is most commonly known for its expressive and harsh lines, but in my work, I've used it to create careful, fine details. I also explore these themes in portraits of others, capturing the emotional complexity of how external influences shape and influence identity. I intentionally use large-scale formats to immerse the viewer in the work, allowing them to focus in on the detail and textures, inviting them to engage with the piece on a more intimate level. I have exhibited nationally and been featured in publications like Variety and Aesthetica, and now I’m looking to grow  and reach new audiences.
