About Dieter Mach

  • Biography
Born and grown up in Germany, I became an experimental physicist at the end of the 70th. Working in the field of optics and holography, I used photography and other imaging techniques to illustrate and document my scientific work. After some years, I got in touch with the aesthetic elements of photography. While working for an architect in northern Germany, I began to use my camera as a creative instrument. It was a long way to get from the documentary photography to the minimalistic and sometimes abstract approach I am following today.
Architecture is still one of my favorite themes, but I also apply my ideas of abstraction and minimalism to nature photography and other genres.
