About Diana Rainova

Biography

Diana Rainova is born in 1947 in Paris, France, as only daughter and heir of the famous Bulgarian sculptor Boyan Rainov and Stella Rainova, who was about to be an assistant of Jean Lurçat at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris at that times. In 1954 her mother was called from Paris to Sofia for family matters, for which she took Diana with her. After their arrival the Bulgarian socialistic government did not allow them to return to France and kept them with no contact with Boyan Rainov during the whole socialistic political period. In 1973 Diana graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia with master degree of education in the specialty "fine art sculpture". Between 1985 and 1987 she specialized at the academy "Pedagogy for Fine Arts" as well. In 1975 -she produced a monumental sculptural composition for the central park in the town of Svilengrad, Bulgaria. In 1980 she had a solo exhibition at the "Kimpinski-Zografski" gallery in Sofia. In 1990 her second solo exhibition "Female Images" took place in the city of Volos, Greece. During the period 1990 - 2000 she took part in several group exhibitions in Sofia-city and won the competition from the Ministry of Culture for producing the sculpture (“Owl”), which has been the annual prize for best publishing author in Bulgaria in the last 19 years till nowadays. In 2002 a group exhibition with sculptural artworks by Diana Rainova and by her mother Stella Raynova took place at a local gallery in Sofia-city. In 2004 Diana had taken part in a group exhibition of small sculptures at "Galeria Gaudi" in Madrid, Spain. And in 2015 she participated at a group exhibition "Image and Similarity" of 77 self-portraits at the National Gallery in Sofia-city. Diana has one daughter and one grand-daughter now and lives in a house in Sofia-city, where she still works as a sculptor.
