About Debbie Court

  • Biography
I sculpt in papier mache using a 'clay' that I make myself from ingredients including paper, glue and flour. I don' t use wire in the armature or paint to achieve colour. All fine detail including hair, clothing and any colour is achieved using coloured tissue paper and powdered glazes. Each piece is unique and is between 15cm and 30cm in height. Papier mache is my passion and I love to sculpt the human figure. Sometimes I make just the head and shoulders keeping the sculpture in it's natural colour and producing tactile pieces that can be touched and handled, and at other times, more delicate, full length pieces in full colour mounted on wooden bases. I often work to commission sculpting true likenesses of actual people and I make these detailed and full of personality and character.
