I have painted in watercolour for about twenty years. I have found it suits the subjects that i like to paint, especially anything involving water. There is nothing like watercolour for painting water. Probably something to do with the transparency, which makes it perfect for sea and sky, river or even wet road. I paint locally or on my travels, in groups sometimes or on my own. I find society membership helpful, and also exhibit four or five times a year in the area. Who was I first inspired by? probably that great English marine artist, Rowland Hilder, best known for illustrating Shellmex guides. Also a sailor, he painted the eastern seaboard including the Thames estuary. His skies are amazing. I have tried to emulate. Sometimes I succeed
