About Clare Dabinett

  • Biography
I’m Clare, a sculptor based in the English countryside and in the summer months the mountains of Catalunya.

I sculpt sensual, earthy figures out of clay, each one an attempt to liberate the power and beauty of the human spirit. My sculptures have their own stories and emotional journeys which I convey through rhythms of volume and space. I experiment with smooth surfaces to create unbroken, sensual lines that speak of fragility and strength in equal measure.

I have a very fluid sculpting style, layering the clay with fast, bold gestures to capture the movement and mood of each sculpture quickly, turning my imagination and unconscious thought into sculpture. Clay has a language of its own so what emerges can be surprising, the tensions of the creative journey always a dual process.
