About Bhavani Krishnan

  • Biography
Hello! I am Bhavani and I love to paint. Since I started painting, I view the world in color, shapes and brushstrokes. A blank canvas, loaded brushes and a splash of color are few of my favorite things. The best part of my day is the time spent at the easel. I believe my brush is mightier than my pen and use paints to portray the beauty of the world as seen through my eyes.

    Artist Statement
As a visual artist, I express myself through my art. I strive for painterly realism in the variety of subjects that I paint in oils. I want my paintings to look real from a distance but up-close they are simply strokes of colors laid upon abstract shapes. I paint on location and in my studio.

I paint from the heart and interpret my emotional response to a scene rather than slavishly copying nature or a photo. I am inspired by beauty. I find it all around me. I look for patterns of light and shadow, evocative passages of color and exciting variety of shapes. My vision as an artist is to convey this spark in my painting in hopes of transcending this experience to the viewer.

As I prepare to paint, I can feel my excitement rising. I begin to visualize the painting in my head. I take time to carefully design and plan my painting. As I start painting, I am transported to another world, a magical world with just my subject, my tools and me. My paints sing and whisper and my brushes dance to their tune, lashing and caressing the canvas. Like the crescendo in a piece of music, my excitement keeps rising as I work through the painting. At the finale, when I complete a painting, I am either elated or shattered. Such is the artist journey, a roller coaster ride of agony, discovery and pure joy. Each painting paves the way for the next one and is a stepping-stone towards my goal, to be a better artist. This never-ending quest for learning and desire to create keeps me striving towards artistic excellence.
