About Arati Mishra

  • Biography

I grew up in India and spent time in Germany and UK in academic pursuits. While growing up in India, one cannot help but get deeply influenced by the intertwined elements of life, folklore, legends, spirituality, pain and joy - all at once!

While ‘Krishna’ and ‘Radha’ epitomize the divinity of love, ‘Buddha’ beckons the eternal that transcends our mortal existence. I wish to capture these emotions in my painting. I often take inspirations from the immense tapestry of colors in India and its people that seem to mingle seamlessly. I aim at artistic renditions of these emotions in oil paints to generate abstractions of the world that I see around me - both natural and spiritual.  In particular, I enjoy abstraction of spiritually evoking facial expressions. I also get inspired by sculptures and real life images, particularly the feminine and those which reveal bonding of mother and child.

I start with bold lines, which then melt into the intense colors and hues that appear quintessentially Indian. Painting provides me immense relief from the mundane as also travails of life.  I will be deeply satisfied if my painting also evokes these emotions to the viewers:  namely, inner quiet and to be one with someone greater than us.
