About Alice Straker

  • Biography
My Art is inspired by a desire to paint all things delicious such as; chocolate eclairs, lemon meringue pies, lobsters and Negronis! My original paintings are thickly textured created using a combination of oils, acrylics (great for meringue textures), palette knives and brushes. The texture is used to mirror the edibility of my subjects. My colour palette is grounded in colour theory which captured my attention as a tool for enhancing and harmonising the vibrancy of my work. I was originally inspired to paint food after seeing a gorgeous slice of raspberry meringue cake that I thought was so beautiful it had to be immortalised! My inspiration also comes from my family’s love of cooking, my twin brother Thomas Straker is a chef, and my degree in Art History. I have recently taken the next step in my Artist career and taken on a studio which has allowed me to start producing work on a larger scale and on a daily basis.
