About Alex Holland

I have focused on art photography of cities over the last 17 years. My main objective is capturing a new perspective on well-known landmarks using long exposures. When I tell friends and family where I've travelled, they ask if I've seen this museum or tried this restaurant, but I rarely have the opportunity because I walk around the city all day to find new angles and at night, I photograph the city at its most serene. I rarely sleep on trips! I experience a busy city at its quietest and I love that feeling - a solitary feeling in a bustling city, viewing it when everyone else is asleep. Sometimes I stand for hours in a location waiting for the right cloud conditions (six hours in Queens, NYC which was my record). It's always worth it if I'm happy with the results.
