Original artwork description
Still life study of a lemon, painted in the style of chiaroscuro. The underlying principle is that solidity of form is best achieved by the light falling against it. Artists known for developing the technique include Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio and Rembrandt.
I love paintings that 'pack a punch' and for me this highly contrasted technique just really works to create that drama that I'm looking for.
This forms one of a series of miniatures that I have been working on recently. Please check out the other fruit portraits too!
