Original artwork description

Yanyuwa – by Alanah Jarvis

Yanyuwa is Australia’s first people’s language that is shaped by the sea and is over 40,000 years old. It represents people of the salt water in the Gulf of Carpentaria, they believe the landscape of their coastal home was created by the tiger shark and its tale is one of the oldest in the world.

This painting pays tribute and respect to Australia’s first people and that of the Yanyuwa people, whose land we call home. Although illustrative, the ocean painting has aspects of abstraction with a play of light and blending of blue and turquoise through the water.
It is placed on professional grade canvas and the sides have been painted to create a faux frame.
