Original Sculpture by Alan Harris
Dimensions 66.04 x 33.02 x 15.24 cm
The central piece of this sculpture features three violin bows and a piece of bog wood. By incorporating discarded musical instruments, Harris recreates the original shape using these objects as elements of the sculpture, thereby revitalizing the life of the instrument. This new creation includes old materials such as metal, brass, copper, and gold powder. The base is made from a beautifully crafted piece of oak wood, enhanced with applications of copper.
Harris's artistic philosophy revolves around the concept of transformation, as he utilizes broken or discarded objects to breathe new life into them. His method reverberates with the principles of Kintsukuroi, an ancient Japanese art form that not only repairs but also enhances the beauty of the initial damage through golden highlights. This technique emphasizes the idea of celebrating imperfections while preserving the stories embedded within each piece.
"With a deep reverence for the past and a commitment to figurative artistry, my work reflects a desire to honor the journey of these objects while inviting viewers to engage with their new life. Each sculpture serves as a testament to resilience and the transformative power of art, encouraging contemplation on both personal and collective narratives"
