Original artwork description
Throughout our lives we constantly balance between different emotions, between pain and happiness, anger and serenity and similar feelings. In the eyes of my paintings I try to capture them as if we were experiencing them at the same time.
In my work I focus on the performative symbolic structure of painting. I draw on the experience of Michel Foucault, on his analysis of the relationship between painting as an object and painting as an illusory volume, renewed by the impressionists. I am looking for ways to articulate the ambivalence of the very nature of the image – enclosed in a frame and simultaneously revealed into virtual layers of consciousness. I strive to mark the midpoint of oscillation, which is localized precisely in optics, in perception.
I do not paint portraits, I do not try to formulate a question or an answer, but I create a reason to doubt the usual interpretation, the Lacanian Real. In this I focus on Magritte’s iteration of surrealism, with its visionary entry into the logic of conceptual art and even further into the process of oscillation. I discard traditional aesthetic gradations, creating a painting-object with which the viewer independently comes into visual contact.
The artwork was made using the author's technique of multi-layer oil painting on premium quality linen canvas. The artwork is stretched on a stretcher, the ends are 4 cm wide and are a continuation of the painting. Completely ready to hang and can be used without a frame if desired.
