The Needles on the Isle of Wight is a famous iconic landmark, but the bay before the Needles is equally spectacular. It's chalk mass tumbles dramatically to the sea.
The painting tries to capture the height of summer, and the cove is in shadow, a gull can be seen highlighted briefly by the sun against the cool blue tones of the cliff.
The image has been painted in oil over an acrylic underpainting on paper.
