Contemporary Impressionism.

This vibrant oil painting captures a late afternoon winter scene inspired by a walk during an increasingly rare snowfall. The artist rushed out with camera in hand to capture the fleeting moment, she then completed the painting back in the studio in a single sitting using the Alla Prima technique.
The composition is dominated by dramatic skies where heavy purple-grey storm clouds break apart to reveal patches of brilliant blue. Golden light from the low winter sun illuminates the clouds from behind, creating striking highlights in amber and cream.
The foreground depicts a snow-covered field rendered in rich blues and purples, with bold directional brushstrokes that lead the eye toward the horizon. Dark silhouettes of trees punctuate the distant tree line against the luminous sky.
