‘Wind Rider’ is an acrylic painting 102x77cms on canvas. “Smoke curls lightly into the sky A sacred moment upon the plain, Old to the young – a story, the soft voice rises . . . catches the wind”. A wind rider is a shaman. The painting evokes a sinister magic and questionable symbolism. When I paint I don’t know why I choose the colours for each work. There is a sense that to probe an essentially mysterious process would be to put into words something that is unsayable. Some of the brushstrokes are autographic, others are accidental, purely gestural. I like accidents. Without creative accident creavity is limited to prescription. The sources here are from the ‘past’. Memories of people and places. These references are rethought, reborn and brought to the present, like a wind rider.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value.
