I love the intensity of greens, layer upon layer of greens. For this piece I took a lot of photos with my old fashioned camera, printed them out and put them in a sketchbook. I then did 6 small paintings simultaneously to work on compositions and get a feel for the work. Finally I produced this large oil painting, using mainly palette knives and scrapers. I tend to emerge myself in the landscape taking photos, sketching, painting in my sketchbook, collecting inspiration and then work in the studio. I find that removal from the landscape helpful as I can put more of myself into the work. My landscapes are then a reflection of myself. Every painting is a result of several days of work, with layers of texture and colour added to create a finished piece that seeks to engage the viewer and evoke their individual thoughts and emotions. The edges are painted Paynes grey and this painting is ready to hang.
