Original artwork description
Being from Mississippi, I am a fan of the state's many writers and artists. Eudora Welty was both a writer and photographer. She won numerous awards for her novels, including a Putlitzer. Her photographs, also, won many awards and are reprinted in several books. They were mostly taken during the depression of the 1930's and show the effects of that time on the rich as well as the poor.
This painting is inspired by an old photograph that Eudora called "Dolls". The irony here is that, during that time period, all manufactured dolls were Caucasian.
As a boy, I worked in a department store that had a toy department. I remember wondering why there were no "colored" dolls.
This painting is a one-of-a-kind original work of art. It is produced using India ink and acrylic paint. I only sell original work so there will only be one original and no authorized copies will ever be made. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
WHITE DOLLS is painted on 4 mil. archival grade drafting mylar . The mylar is tough, waterproof, inert, flexible, dimensionally stable, and it does not have to be stretched, like canvas and watercolor paper.
This painting will be ready to hang, out of the box. It will be mounted on tempered masonite with a two inch border all around. It will have a hanging strip on the back and I include a “monkey hook” for easy attachment to your wall.
