Original artwork description
Olga used PLIKE Neenah white paper for this piece. PLIKE is one-of-kind "plastic-like" surface which provides a tactile sensation and artistic innovation. The main tool for creating her sculptures is a surgical blade. Olga gives the depth to her work by using double-sided sticky foam between the layers. The distinguishing feature is the paper edge cut at an angle, as this creates smoother transitions from light to shadow. The beveled edge of white paper was painted with a liquid gold leaf paint. The paper sculpture techniques give the artwork a greater illusion of 3D.
White color gives Olga much more space to implement her ideas. It gives an organic feeling, conveys airiness, lightness, softness, and purity.
She explores the different variations that are possible in the composition and plays with the shapes, depth and transitions from light to shadow. Each work is highly textured and inspired by natural formations and their textures.
