Whispers of the Tide (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Debbie Joplin

Whispers of the Tide is a luminous, layered composition that evokes the organic rhythms of ocean currents and coastal memories. Rich with movement, the painting blends translucent blues, warm ochres, coral pinks, and soft neutrals with hand-drawn botanical forms and dotted textures that suggest bubbles, shells, and tidal patterns. Ethereal leaf-like shapes drift across the surface, as though carried by a gentle underwater swell.

My technique involves starting with multiple layers of paint using a variety of tools and brushes that create a wide range of shapes, forms and lines. Upon starting, I paint intuitively and quickly. Nearing the end, everything slows down and I begin the process of discernment, carefully analyzing changes in value and composition until I am happy with the final painting.

Sides are painted gray with several coats of UV protective varnish. This artwork is wired in the back for hanging and is signed on the back side, allowing you to hang the piece at any orientation.
