There is a profound, quiet beauty in the Krefeld Stadtwald when the autumn rain begins to fall. While most seek shelter, I find that the damp air softens the world, turning the historic landscape into a living watercolor. This small study was painted en plein air during a remarkably pleasant rainy day in October 2025. Sitting beneath the canopy of ancient oaks, I watched as the architectural lines of the distant pavilions dissolved into the mist, reflected in the shimmering surface of the pond.

My goal was to capture the "pleasant melancholy" of the season - not a gloomy darkness, but a refreshing, earthy atmosphere where the gold of the leaves meets the silver of the rain. The 100% cotton paper allowed me to work with the humidity of the air, letting the pigments flow and mingle just as they do in nature.
