The painting depicts a vast, tranquil moorland landscape in warm, vibrant autumn colors. The foreground is dominated by dense grasses and reeds that shimmer in rich shades of orange, ochre, and gold. The brushstrokes are lively and loose, making the vegetation appear almost to be in motion, as if a gentle breeze were sweeping through it. Small patches of water open up repeatedly among the tufts of grass, reflecting the light in cool shades of blue and silver and creating a charming contrast to the warm colors of the surroundings. In the middle of the composition, a narrow strip of the lake runs horizontally across the scene. Its calm, smooth surface acts as a visual pause between the textured foreground and the softer distance. The background is dominated by gently rising, forested hills and mountains. These are rendered in cool shades of blue and violet and appear slightly blurred and ethereal due to atmospheric perspective. The contours gradually dissolve the farther they recede into the distance, creating a great sense of spatial depth. Above it stretches a vast sky rendered in delicate, pastel shades of blue and pink. The cloud formations are applied loosely and almost shimmeringly, making the light appear diffuse and immersing the entire scene in a calm, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Overall, the painting thrives on the contrast between warm and cool tones.
