Weight of Light is a contemporary abstract painting created as a quiet study of space, matter, and subtle contrast.
While working on this piece, I focused on the balance between openness and grounding. Soft layers of cool grey, misty blue, warm beige, and off-white are interrupted by darker earthy tones and deep charcoal accents, anchoring the composition and giving it visual weight. The surface holds traces of movement — palette knife textures, scraped paint, gentle drips, and worn edges that reveal the process beneath the final layer.
I used acrylic paint in multiple transparent and opaque layers, allowing light tones to breathe while darker passages stabilize the composition. The textured surface changes depending on lighting, inviting the viewer to pause and notice new details over time.
