Between 1880-1886 the famous Swiss paint artist Arnold Böcklin painted five different pieces of the same subject (Dead Island). Sybolism with strong Romanticism roots. Many visual artists, sculptors, composers, novelists, writers, film, theater and tv makers, photographers used Böcklin's Toteninsel as inspiration for their work.
