Fans of The Italian Job (film) will recognise the title of this artwork immediately. It’s one of my favourite films and has three minis in it, one red, one white and one blue. It’s also quintessentially British hence the Union Jack flag.

First I created an illustration of a Mini car, head on view, and then had this printed onto watercolour paper.

I've then arranged 25 of the minis in a square and painted the Union Jack flag across them in watercolour paint and gold ink.

I cut out the painted Mini's by hand and mounted them on small foam board plinths to enhance the three dimensional effect. This helps to cast shadows depending on where the light is coming from.

I masked off a square in the middle of another piece of watercolour paper and used black acrylic and gold ink to splatter across it forming the base for the painted cars to sit on.

The whole piece is framed in a glazed, white deep box frame.

I can create Mini cars, or any other vehicle, in any colour if you are interested in a commission piece.
The space in the number plate can also be used for your own number plate, or wording (space dependant).
